China Outbound FDI 1980 – 2008 (US$ billion)
China needs Latin America as much as Latin America needs China, increasingly so and for strategic reasons.
In 2008, trade between these regions surpassed US$140 billion. In February 2009 China became Latin America's second largest trading partner.
Cumulative FDI from China to Latin America surpassed US$25 billion in 2008.
